     Mrs. J. P. [Raney] Howard, age 90, of Coleman, formerly of Santa Anna, died Monday,  February 28, 1994 at Coleman County Medical Center.
     Services will be Thursday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. at the First Baptist church of Santa Anna.
The Rev. Wade Messer will officiate. Burial will follow at the Santa Anna Cemetery, under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna.
     Pallbearers will be Ronald Brown, Rob Cheaney, Arvel Cullins, Glen Jones, Mayo Marrs, and Vernon Rowe. Honorary pallbearers will be R. W. Balke, William Brown, Clarence Gilbert, Otis Greerer, James Posey, Garland Powel, Leland Sikes and Leo Williarns.
     Born July 24, 1903 in Liberty, she was the daughter of Samuel Houston Duggins and Matilda Arizona “Zonie” Kyle. She attended Liberty and Santa Anna schools and was a graduate of Howard Payne Academy. She also attended Howard Payne College.
     Mrs. Howard was a lifetime resident of Coleman County. She married Jesse Edgar Howard on November 3, 1926 in Santa Anna. She was a teacher in Liberty, Buffalo, and Brown Ranch Schools. Also, she coached girl’s basketball and later substitute taught in Santa Anna and Leaday  schools.
     She had been a member of the first Baptist Church of Santa Anna, the First Baptist Church WMU, a charter member and past president of the Chat and Stitch Club, a member and past secretary of the Mountain City Garden Club, and a Sunday School teacher.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Edgar Howard, in 1990.
     Survivors included son and daughter-in-law, Donald Ray and Emily Howard of Coleman;  three grandchildren and their spouses, Donna Sue and David Pearson of Springfield, Virginia,  Stanley and Tedda Howard of Windsor, South Carolina; Ronnie and Lallah Howard of Falfurrias,  Texas; four great-grandchildren and their spouses, Glen David and Lu Pearson of Fairfax,  Virginia; Robert Franklin Pearson III of Ft Meade, Maryland; Agnes Marguerita Howard of  Windsor, South Carolina; and Brian Adam Howard of Falfurrias, Texas.
