Jess E. Howard, age 89, of Coleman died Sunday, April 15, 1990 at 3:10 p.m. at Overall-Morris Hospital. Services were held Wednesday, April 18 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Santa Anna with the Rev. John Stanislaw officiating. Burial was in Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home.
He was born November 17, 1900 in Iola, Texas to George T. and Mittie Keith Howard. He married Raney B. Duggins in Santa Anna November 3, 1926. He was a resident of Santa Anna for 72 years before moving to Coleman about a year ago.
He attended school in Iola finishing the tenth grade. He was a Baptist He held membership in Modern Woodsman of America Post, he had served as a member of the Santa Anna ISD board of trustees, and was a longtime member of the Santa Anna Volunteer Fire Department
He was a barber for 57 years and a stock farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Raney Howard of Coleman; one son, Donald Ray Howard of Coleman; one brother, H. L Howard of Abernathy; two sisters, Gladys Turner of Houston and Virdie Dean of Madisonville; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Rob Cheaney, William Brown, Arvel Cullins, Darrell Philips and Ronald Brown. Honorary pallbearers were C. C. Gilbert, Dick Longbrake, R. W. Balke, Garland Powell, Russell Diserens, and Douglas Milligan.
