John Wesley Kile was born 5 June 1844, in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, to Joseph Kile and Mary J. "Polly" Dyches. He died 21 February 1930, in Coleman County, Texas. He is buried at Santa Anna Cemetery, Santa Anna, Texas. He had two older brothers George and Jacob. George probably died early. Jacob died in Bandera, Texas, as one of the Bandera's 8, July 1863. John's father, Joseph Kile, died between 1845 and 1849. Mary,
John's mother, was remarried to Joseph Strong, they along with her children moved to Williamson County, Texas about 1855. He is next found in the 1850 census of Washington Parish, Louisiana, also listed with him are J. Strong, Mary (his mother), George, Jacob and, probably, an uncle, George Coile or possibly Caile. In 1860, John is found living in Williamson County, Texas with Joseph Strong, Mary, Jacob and an individual named George Harris listed as orphaned. John enlisted in February 1864 as a private in William Armstrong's Company, Ford's Regiment, according to his obituary and pension papers. He served to the close of the war and attained the rank of corporal. His pension papers registered on 5 March 1910, states he was a "sheepherder", and he lived in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas for 7 years.
On 31 May 1866, John married Nancy Mary Ann Fish in Williamson County, Texas, she was the daughter of John Fish and Martha Whitmire, born about 1848 in Newton County, Texas and died about 1881 in Williamson County, Texas. They had 5 children. John and Nancy were first cousins. John next married Fanny Westbrook, daughter of John Westbrook and Della?. They had 2 children. She was born 1866 in Texas and died before 1890. John's third marriage was to Elizabeth Jane Bass Duggins, daughter of Isaac Bass and Jerusha Dyches, 19 October 1890, in Bell County, Texas. John and Elizabeth Jane were also cousins. They had 3 children.
John and his family moved to Coleman County, Texas between 1897 and 1900, the source used is a deed, executed by E.J. Kile on 19 August 1897, which states she is a resident of Bell County, Texas. According to a newspaper article (Coleman Newspaper, 1969) on the 60th wedding anniversary of Luther Austin Kile and Ulala Mahala McQueen Kile, John brought his family to Coleman County in 1897 to make their home with Mr. & Mrs. Sam Duggins. The 1900 census records list him in Coleman County, along with his son, Luther A., 8 years old, a daughter, Lavicie M. 5 years old, his children with Elizabeth Jane Bass Duggins Kile, also listed is his daughter from his marriage to Nancy Fish, Arizona "Zonie" (Kile) Duggins, her husband Samuel, their children, James, Ida Pearl, and Lucinda J. Included in the census is Nora and John Alexander Smith, children of Matilda Arizona (Kile) Smith Duggins and Alexander Smith.
In the 1910 census we find John living in the same household with Sam H. Duggins, head, Arizona, wife, Marshall, son, Pearl, daughter, Janie, daughter, Daphne, daughter, Rainey, daughter, Carter, son, Samuel, son, Elie (sp?) Smith, stepson, John W. Kile, father-in-law.
In the 1920 census we find John living in the same household with S. H. Duggins, head, Arizona, wife, Raney, daughter, Henry C., son, Sam H. son, R. R. Stubblefield, laborer, J. W. Kile, Father. In this census record it has the birth place for John's father as Germany and that he spoke Dutch, his mother's birth place is listed as Louisiana.
