Welcome to my family
Welcome to the Boyd, Gray, Halpain & McIlvain families website. I hope you find something here to help you and if not you can help me in some way. Either way I hope you enjoy the work I have put in so far and check back often. If you find mistakes please use the contact email address on the left.
I started trying to trace my ancestory in the Boyd family and have discovered that you cannot research one surname without including the ones that have married into the family. The search started with what I knew about my maternal part of the family, my great grandmother's name was Sennie Margaret Melinda Arkansas Jane Boyd Bradshaw Hall Patrick, known as Maggie. After questioning my family endlessly, I could never find out Maggie's parents names, but I did find out that my grandmother Bessie May Hall was getting a royalty from an old oil lease and got the break I needed when an old check was found with just the name of the company on it. After doing a bit of searching I came up with the probate court case that described the lawsuit and subsequent ruling, unfortunately, it is 17 pages long and I am not up to trying to transcribe it at this time; but what I did find out is some of the names that I could cross references with census records and family and have made a modest start at demystifying this family.
For the first time I was able to tell my mother that her great grandfather's name was Robert Zeddock Boyd, which now explains why Bessie knew him as Dock Boyd. From the census records, I was able to glean that Maggie had 2 sisters and 5 brothers none of which my mother had any knowledge of.
